We tend to think of maturity as being determined by age, but this is not always the case. To mature is to give meaning to the life experiences we acquire, learning from them to make us stronger as people.

This process is personal and depends on how each of us internalizes it. There is no doubt that the most important thing is to understand how they affect us in our experiences and to modulate the situations we face, with responsibility and coherence, in order to learn from them.

That's why, today, I leave you with 8 essential tips on personal and professional life and 10 life lessons that they don't teach you in school. Reflections that you have surely experienced at one time or another and that I hope will help you and accompany you throughout your life.

The 8 essential tips on personal and professional life

1. Learn to say no

To impress, not to disappoint or simply because we think we can handle everything. Many times, it is difficult for us to say β€œno” to someone or something. Of course, this is a big mistake. We end up burdening ourselves with endless responsibilities, impossible tasks that considerably decrease our productivity and in the end, we only get frustrated and increase our stress level.

πŸ’‘
Learning to say "no" is not only necessary, but also healthy.

2. Don't work just for money

Yes, money is important, but getting more should never be the main driving force behind your decisions. If we stay in a job that we don't like just for money, we won't be happy. Of course, we understand that money allows us to access the material conditions we want, but if we focus our existence on it, we run the risk of losing focus on what will really make us happy.

Listen to yourself, be brave and make decisions putting your happiness before material and economic goods.

3. Learn to learn from others

You will always come across someone who has more knowledge or more work experience than you. No problem. Do not see it as a threat, but as an opportunity. You will be able to learn a lot from them, from their experiences and how they have solved problems they have faced.

We tend to think that, at an age, learning ceases to be important, that we already know everything. Quite the contrary: surround yourself with people who help you continue learning and develop personally and professionally. Your motivation levels will grow day by day.

4. Stay active outside of work

Make no mistake: work is not everything in life. Find time outside of work hours to dedicate yourself to doing things that you like and that bring you well-being. Many times it can be complicated by the shock wave generated by day to day, but finding those little moments in which to practice those hobbies at the end of your day is essential.

Think about what you like: sports, fishing, sewing, studying, having a drink with your friends in the afternoon or cooking a special dish? Just do it. They are small, simple and pleasant things that will remind you that you can have a life beyond work.

5. Find the balance between your personal and professional life

It is absolutely normal: the work itself stresses. And there's nothing wrong with admitting it. There will be times when you have to work extra hours, sacrifice personal time and live difficult situations. But, accept them in a balanced way and knowing where the limits are in which you must say "no".

You need to respect your personal life and take it as seriously as your work responsibilities. Work is important, but so is what you do outside of it.

6. Play as a team

When problems are shared they reach another relief. This applies both to your day-to-day at work and to your life outside of it. When problems are shared, your colleagues give you a different vision that will allow you to face them from another perspective.

Even if this is not the case, you will see how leaning on your network of close people will make everything easier.

7. Disconnect from technology

The excessive and constant use of technology is one of the most characteristic trends of our time . This is probably one of the most difficult points to reach in this constantly connected world. You can start by limiting its use at specific times of the day (one hour before going to sleep, when you are in social gatherings, at meal times...).

πŸ§β€β™‚οΈ
You will see how you begin to enjoy your life more actively and value these moments of technological inactivity.

8. And take good care of yourself

Taking care of yourself and looking after your health and wellness should be your number 1 priority. If you are so focused on work that it begins to invade you to the point of making you sick, stressed or generating anxiety, it is time to stop and change. Sacrificing your health for work is a price no one should pay.

I hope that these eight vital lessons will serve and inspire you. If you manage to internalize them and make them yours so that they accompany you throughout your life, you will see how little by little you feel happier, calmer and in connection with yourself and your needs.

The 10 life lessons they don't teach you in school

School teaches you the basics to succeed in life, such as math, writing, science and social skills. However, not everything is taught in school. Your education is a dress rehearsal for life that falls to you.

Here are 10 life lessons that most people don't learn in school. Knowing them is essential to a successful personal and professional life.

1. Self-assessment

Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses is one of the biggest challenges you will face in your life. We need to take a hard look in the mirror and figure out what we're good at and how our strengths can help us succeed. You are most effective when you take advantage of your strengths, not your weaknesses. Strengthening your strengths is one of the keys to happiness.

Research has found that people who practice their strengths are happier and less depressed. You can undermine your strengths if you focus too much on your weaknesses, leading to lower self-confidence.

2. Management of expectations

I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine.

One of the things school doesn't teach you is how to manage the expectations of others. When expectations are not well communicated, emotional outbursts occur. Not everyone thinks or acts the same way. We all have different expectations and we like to project on others what we consider important. We expect others to have the same expectations as us.

Expectations can undermine your life. People get upset when their expectations are not met. Managing expectations will help you become more emotionally intelligent.

3. Learn from failure

Learning from failure is not what school is about. The school tries not to fail. At some point in our lives, we will fail. How do we handle it and how do we learn? Life doesn't turn out the way you planned it, so you have to accept the difficult moments because they make you stronger and more successful.

The school tends to encourage others not to take risks. The biggest risk is not taking risks. Learning from failure teaches you tenacity, character, and resilience. You are better able to learn from the ups and downs of life that are inevitable.

4. Balance

After love, balance is the most important thing. School doesn't teach about how to balance your life. Managing your time well allows you to live a happy and healthy life. Finding balance helps you improve your overall health and pay attention to your body's needs. Prioritize your diet, exercise, and sleep with a good work-life balance. School doesn't teach you to take care of yourself.

5. Mental Health

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. 1 in 5 people experience a mental illness. Mental health is about our emotional, psychological and social well-being.

Mental health is about managing stress, connecting deeply with others, and making better life choices. Good mental health helps us cope with the ups and downs of life. You can live a better life when you are mentally strong.

6. Money is not happiness

Money does not buy happiness and it is not everything. Money should not be the cornerstone of your life. It shouldn't define who you are because you can't take your possessions with you when you die.

The moments of your life are more important than any money. A big house, a car, and a well-paying job are beautiful, but they don't guarantee happiness. Money can bring out the worst in people who can't separate money from joy. It can lead you to compare yourself to others more often, sabotaging your success.

7. Manners

Good manners reflect something inside: an innate sense of consideration for others and respect for oneself. Manners are a big part of our civilized society.
Manners have been in decline, but they are essential because they make a good impression on others.

Manners are more than saying β€œplease” and β€œthank you”. It's about kindness and respect for the people you meet. Manners are like signals, show the values and traditions of a society.

8. Success doesn't happen overnight.

Success takes many years and does not happen overnight. It's a myth that many people wish for: success happens suddenly.

This unconscious desire for overnight success makes you impatient, clouds your judgment, and encourages risky behaviors that will affect your job performance. The myth of overnight success traps you, because there is no fast track to success.

🧠
It takes time, hard work and perseverance. Even if there is overnight success, you shouldn't own it because you didn't earn it.

9. Negotiation

The hardest thing in any negotiation is making sure you strip away the emotion and deal with the facts. Most schools don't teach you about negotiation. Being able to negotiate is vital in the real world.

It is an indispensable skill that everyone should know and master. It is impossible to succeed in life without him. Negotiation is about understanding assumptions, asking thoughtful questions, listening, and remaining calm throughout the process.

10. Expect the unexpected

To be a successful person, you must be prepared for the unexpected. The world is unpredictable and you never know what will happen next. Are you prepared for the challenges and opportunities that come your way? You must have a growth mindset and prioritize learning over failure.

You should not be afraid to take risks and be prepared for what is coming around the corner. You will see failure as an opportunity when you have a growth mindset.
